In September and November 2025, matric and Grade 11 learners in KwaZulu-Natal wrote examinations with Xcallibre Digital Smartpens. They wrote in ink on paper as usual, with no training and no internet, while every answer was captured digitally. Scripts reached the X-Station cloud within minutes, and markers assessed them from home. Xcallibre projects that full implementation could cut the cost of manual exam writing and marking by more than 60%. The pilot was run with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education.
